Supporting, caring, and providing assistance to our staff at NCHS is an opportunity our 12th grade students can be a part of during their senior year. This course will allow students to gain knowledge and soft skills in several different areas. A wonderful way to boost a resume and gain work experience.

PEER TUTOR
APPLICATION REQUIRED

A peer tutor is defined as a knowledgeable and experienced guide, a trusted ally and advocate, and a caring role model. Peer Tutors provide support in a classroom that allows them to bring their strongest knowledge to our school community.

CARDINAL CREATOR
APPLICATION REQUIRED

Students with a passion to create a self-driven course culminating in a form of Community Contribution for our school or local community.  Some examples are maintaining and creating our athletic website, NCHS podcast/broadcast, alumni and community director, etc. If you can dream it, we can support you in making it happen.

YEARBOOK
APPLICATION REQUIRED

Yearbook I is a two-semester application only course focused on writing for publication. It is for students in their first year in the NC Journalism program. The objectives of this course include: to familiarize students with the different modes of journalistic writing; to enable students to write effectively in different journalistic modes; to empower students to look critically at their own writing, in both style and content; to enable students to evaluate their writing and the writing of others; to train students to think critically and work under deadlines; to assist in the successful publication of a variety of for-profit and not-for-profit publications; to gain professional experiences in real-world settings through interviews, sales, and public relations; to use the written word to positively affect the culture of the school and community.

STLP

This course is for students participating in The Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) as a part of their course schedule. STLP provides students with an opportunity to explore and refine their skills in technology.

CARDINAL COMMUNICATIONS

In this class students will work as a team to deliver an engaging, diverse, and informative video newscast to the school. Students will gain presentation skills, learn how to use broadcasting equipment and apply writing techniques. Students will be frequently given a variety of assignments with tight deadlines such as writing stories, conducting interviews, researching topics, and general organization tasks. This class will need students who can perform in front of a camera, as well as students who prefer to work more behind the scenes.
